Funtional Orthodontics is a
progressive orthodontic approach that relies primarily upon
the natural forces produced by muscles in the mouth ( tongue,
cheeks, lips, and jaws) to promote the proper growth, development,
and position of the patient's teeth and jaws, and less on orthodontic
devices or surgical procedures. This
method is faster, produces better results, saves time and money,
and the results are far more permanent than the results achieved
by standard orthodontics.

One common misconception about orthodontics
(sadly even with many orthodontists) is that it is best to
wait until a child is in his or her teens before orthodontic
treatment is started. This is absolutely not the case.
If orthodontics is approached
while the patient is still young and growing, much of what
many older orthodontic patients find themselves correcting
can actually be prevented
if caught during childhood! Click

treatment with Sonshine Dental Care earlier rather then later
can help your child acquire the best smile they can have while
saving Mom and Dad time and money.

Invisible
Braces have become one of the most well known recent orthodontic
advances in recent years. This is partially thanks to the many
well known personalities today that are creating a tremendous
buzz with their invisible braces. These
very advanced aligners have many advantages over traditional
braces including they are less noticeable, they are more comfortable,
and oral hygiene is easier for the patient to maintain.

Many
doctors even today (including TMJ specialists) provide only
temporary relief from TMD (temporomandibular disorder) symptoms,
but Dr.
Nieten has a great understanding of the temporomandibular joint
and has been extremely successful in actually correcting the
cause of TMD creating a far more permanent relief. Dr.
Nieten knows that between 80 - 90% of TMD is directly related
to lower jaw position, and that's where he can help you.

Snoring is often viewed by
society as embarrassing or bothersome, but should we see it
as far more than that? Sometimes we even find snoring amusing
or comical, but should it be taken more seriously? Dr. Nieten
and Sonshine Dental Care actually take snoring quite
seriously, and we think you should
too. Why? It is now known
that snoring is an indication of a much more serious problem.
Sleep apnea is an abnormal breathing condition that is indicated
by snoring. If someone you
know has a problem with snoring, this means they suffer from
sleep apnea. So while the
snoring itself is not life threatening, the
sleep apnea condition that accompanies it has been discovered
to be life threatening. Click

Bad breath
is both fairly embarrassing to have and unpleasant to experience.
Most of us have periodically had bad breath at one time or another,
maybe after eating something with onions on it or garlic in
it. This kind of superficial bad breath is normal and usually
harmless and it can be taken care of with some mouthwash or
by simply brushing your teeth. But
if you or someone you love seem to consistently have offensive
breath, the kind of
bad breath that doesn't seem to be facilitated by recently ingested
flavorful meal, chances
are very good that this could be an indication of a much more
serious problem. This
serious problem, if unattended, could cause you to lose your
teeth, will weaken your immune system allowing you to become
sick more easily, and is now viewed as a serious potential culprit
in heart attacks. Click

Preventive
- We strongly believe that prevention is the key to oral health
in both orthodontics and in dentistry.
Most dentists
and orthodontists are content to simply correct the damage in
your mouth after it is done (whether
it is a cavity, gum disease, or crooked teeth), but
Dr. Nieten would much rather show you how you and your family
can avoid these conditions entirely.
Most individuals don't realize that
almost all of the typical dental and orthodontic conditions
are avoidable and preventable... including crooked
teeth! We
would love to teach your family how! Click

Restorative
- This
is yet another feature of Sonshine Dental Care that makes us
very unique. It
is widely known in both the scientific and medical world that
mercury is a quite toxic substance. But
what most individuals (especially those who have one or more
silver fillings in their mouth) don't realize is that the traditional
silver filling can be (and often is) as much as 50% mercury!
Somehow
there would seem to be an obvious connection made between mercury's
toxicity and the fact that it is in a huge number of American
mouths, but it has been seriously overlooked by nearly the entire
dental world, which is truly amazing to us! Basically
there are millions of Americans living their daily lives with
a toxic substance in their mouths!!

your family's mercury exposure problem.
